Defrag Your Fragmented Mac Drive and Improve System Performance

Many times, at the time of performing a normal copy, move or delete operation on a file, your Mac takes unusually more time than usual. You can easily notice that the Mac is taking significantly more time for performing various day to day operations that it was taking earlier. Such slow Mac problem happens with almost every Mac user, once the system hard drive gets severely fragmented. In such cases, you just need to defragment Mac hard drive, using any third party utility and the problem will completely go away.

Your daily work on Mac includes various instances of file creation and deletion operation. When you save new files on the hard drive, they occupy some memory locations. Similarly, when the files are deleted, the corresponding memory locations get freed. With several occasions of file creation and deletion, the free memory in the drive becomes scattered.

At the time of saving a new file, the operating system always tries to find a memory chunk that is greater than or equal to the size of the file. But, when you try to save a large file onto a drive with such scattered memory locations, the operating system fails to find a suitable memory chunk. Even though there lays enough space to allocate the file, the OS has to break the file into logical fragments and save them in available memory locations.

Such a hard drive with scattered free space is known as fragmented drive and the file that is stored in multiple fragments is called as a fragmented file. Before performing any operation on a file, the Mac OS locates the file and loads it into memory. But, if the file is severely fragmented, then the OS needs to load the file by going to the location of each fragment. And thus the total time required to perform the action increases.

In order to solve this slow Mac problem, you need to defrag your Mac hard drive. Unfortunately, Mac does not have any option to defrag the hard drive or fragmented files and you have to opt for any third-party Mac disk defragmenter.

Stellar Drive Defrag is an immensely useful utility to defrag Mac drive, volumes and files. The software increases your system performance by bringing back the fragmented files onto contiguous memory locations. The software even provides an option to create a bootable DVD from which it can work on the boot volume of the system. Importantly, the software is completely reliable and easy to use, without needing any technical assistance.
